To:                   SPEEA Puget Sound Technical Bargaining Unit Council

From:              Negotiation Team Nominating Committee

Subject:           PRE-SUBMITTED NEW BUSINESS:  RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE 2012 SPEEA TECHNICAL UNIT NEGOTIATION TEAM

The Negotiation Team Nominating Committee was directed by the Northwest Regional Council to nominate the 2012 Puget Sound Technical Unit Negotiation Team candidates to present to this Bargaining Unit Council (BUC).

In accordance with the NW Region Policy, the Committee advertised for applicants, stating the eligibility requirements.  Several informational (orientation) meetings were held in Everett and Tukwila for those interested in serving on their Negotiation Team.  The Committee met several times to establish procedures and develop the questionnaire for the interviews.

We received applications from 8 Puget Sound area Tech Unit members (two were subsequently withdrawn).  The Committee interviewed six applicants with the intention of recommending to the BUC who it felt would be the best candidates for the Team.

The Nominating Committee met as a whole to conduct this work; however, each member was free to use his or her own interpretation of the candidates’ abilities and interview responses.  The interview responses assisted in making the candidate selections, and the committee used the following criteria as a guide:  Communication Skills, Knowledge/Experience, Character Traits, Teamwork, and Commitment.
